14 DAYS/12 NIGHTS Land & Cruise Itinerary.
DAY 1: OVERNIGHT FLIGHTS TO SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA. (O)
DAY 2: SIEM REAP – CAMBODIA (D/SNK)
Upon arrival transfer to your centrally located hotel. Depending on arrival times either a dinner or light snack will be provided (for all arrivals prior to 10 pm!)
DAY 3: SIEM REAP – ANGKOR TEMPLES (B, L,)
The day is devoted to an in-depth exploration of the fascinating “Lost City of Angkor”. Once the capital of the ancient Khmer empire, which ruled the area from the 9th to the 13th century, the city and its fascinating temples were slowly covered by jungle until the city was lost to civilization. The temples were rediscovered at the end of the 19th century, the jungle was cleared over the next 70 years to reveal the “8th Wonder of the World” – the ancient Temples of Angkor Wat – today a UNESCO Heritage sight. After a buffet breakfast at your hotel, your morning tour will take you to explore the south gates of Angkor Thom, Bayan Temple, Elephant Terrace, the Royal enclosure and the Terrace of the Leper King. A break for lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon is reserved for a visit to Ta Phrom and the magnificent main Temples of Angkor Wat! Dinner is on your own.
DAY 4: SIEM REAP – CITY TOUR/PUB STREET (B, D)
Enjoy a city tour of this fast growing gateway to the Angkor Temples including a stop at the famous Artist D Angkor workshop where you will have a chance to see local artist create hand made art right before you! Return to your hotel for lunch on your own and some rest time. This evening depart for the city center and the “infamous” Pub Street to savor dinner at the air conditioned “Champay” restaurant or the popular “Red Piano” restaurant, a favorite of actress Angelina Jolie during the filming of the Tomb Raider movies. Return to the hotel or explore the vibrant night market and return on your own.
DAY 5: SIEM REAP – EMBARKATION – SET SAIL (B, D)
Morning at leisure until transfer to Siem Port* and on to your floating hotel. Settle in and set sail. This evening, meet your crew and enjoy a welcome drink prior to your first romantic dinner. *Low water transfers may be done by motor coach.
DAY 6: CHNOK TRU – FLOATING VILLAGE – KAMPONG CHNANG (B, L, D)
After breakfast on board visit of the biggest floating village on the Tonlé Sap River by local boats. Enjoy lunch on board on the way to Kampong Chnang, one of Cambodia’s largest fishing ports and the center of fish farming. It is also famous for its archaic pottery making which supplies the whole country. Your walking /mini-bus tour will take you to a pottery farm and a local village where locals will demonstrate their wide variety of use for the local sugar sap tree. Dinner and overnight on board.
DAY 7: KAMPONG TRALACH – PHNOM PENH (B, L, D)
On arrival depart via a fun ox cart ride on your sightseeing tour which will include the local village and a visit to the Wat Leu Pagoda. Return to the ship for lunch as you sail on. Upon arrival to Phnom Penh depart on your afternoon city tour of this lovely capital of Cambodia which has retained its French colonial charm. Your sightseeing will include the Royal Palace complex and the National Museum. Return to the ship for an enchanting performance of the national Apsara Dances (performed on board by children from a local orphanage) followed by dinner. The balance of the night is free for optional pursuits or maybe a “wild ride” via local tuk-tuks through the bustling riverside promenade!
DAY 8: PHNOM PENH - PM SAIL FOR BORDER (B, L, D)
After breakfast, depart for an excursion to the Tuol Sleng Museum, the infamous S-21 prison and place of torture and death for thousands of innocent Cambodians at the hands of the Khmer Rouge regime, made world famous by the movie “The Killing Fields”. Then return to the city for lunch at a local restaurant and end the day on a lighter note by visiting the Russian Market, a great place for bargaining for souvenirs. Return to the ship and set sail to the Vietnamese border during dinner.
DAY 9: VIETNAMESE BORDER - CHAU DOC (B, L, D)
Early morning departure to Vinh Xuong, the Vietnamese border. Arrival at the border with Vietnam. Relax on the sundeck while the vessel goes through the (sometimes lengthy) border procedures. After lunch, a walking tour of the village will be followed by a visit to the local fish raising rafts and the local minority Cham community in local boats. Return to the ship for dinner as you sail on towards Sa Dec.
DAY 10: SA DEC – VINH LONG – CAI BE (B, L, D)
After breakfast enjoy a panoramic tour of Sa Dec by coach including a visit to Truong Vuong primary school and the “Chinaman’s house” popularized in Marguerite Duras’ famous novel “The Lover”. Return to the ship for lunch as you sail on to Vinh Long & Cai Be. At Vinh Long small sampan boats will take you to visit the local brick and pottery factory as well as a local house. Then its on to Cai Be where you will tour the floating market in local boats. Return to the ship for dinner. Overnight at anchor.
DAY 11: CAI BE – MY THO - (B, L, D)
After breakfast and arrival, enjoy a panoramic tour of My Tho and visit Thoi Son Island in local boats to view authentic riverside life and enjoy local fruits. Return to the ship for lunch. The afternoon is at sail giving you time to rest, relax and prepare for our final farewell cocktail and our festive Captain’s Farewell Dinner! Overnight at anchor.
DAY 12: END CRUISE – HO CHI MINH CITY – DISEMBARKATION (B, L)
Arrival to Saigon after breakfast. Check out and bid your lovely crew goodbye as you depart on a full day sightseeing tour of this vibrant former capital. First enjoy a comprehensive city sightseeing tour which will include the Post Office, built by Gustav Eiffel, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Presidential Palace. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon continue with a visit to the popular Chinese market where you can bargain for those last minute souvenirs. Dinner is on your own.
DAY 13: HO CHI MINH CITY - (B, L,)
Start the day with an excursion to the fascinating Cu Chi Tunnels. Built during the Vietnam War to protect from bombing raids, the tunnels extend underground for over 212 km and range in depth from 3 to 12 meters! They feature remnants of a living city; schools, community kitchens, sleeping quarters, hospitals as well as military production facilities. Return to the city and enjoy a Vietnamese style lunch at a local restaurant. The balance of the day is free for exploration. Dinner is on your own*.
*Late evening outbound flights will retain their rooms until transfer to the airport.
DAY 14: HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON) – HOME (B)
As all good things must come to an end, so does your wonderful exploration of this unique part of Southeast Asia! After a final breakfast, check-out and transfer to the airport for your homebound flights.
