MS Silver Explorer is a luxury expedition style ship with 66 ocean facing luxurious cabins in multiple categories for up to ~132 guests all with private en-suite facilities some with balconies and has its own fleet of zodiacs for going ashore as well as Silversea’s high standard of on board common facilities such as an elevator, theatre, library, observation lounge bars, spa, fitness centre, boutique, beauty salon and viewing deck etc.
Itinerary highlights
Cruise amidst pristine landscapes of glaciers and icebergs and explore deep fjords lined with rugged mountains that is Svalbard the last major European wilderness area. Enjoy Zodiac cruises among remote bird cliffs and ashore discover ruins of long-defunct whaling operations. Search for polar bear, walrus, reindeer, Arctic fox, and bearded seal and watch out for whales including Minke and beluga Tand trek along the tundra observing eiders, terns, skuas, sandpipers, auks and puffins. Day 1: Tromso, Norway | Embark the MS Silver Explorer in the afternoon and sail in the evening. Welcome cocktail party.
Day 2: At Sea | Lectures from expert staff on what to see and do on arrival and enjoy the ship facilities and exquisite dining experiences.
Day 3: Bear Island | Zodiac excursion to the islands steep cliffs looking out for whales and the myriad seabirds here.
Day 4-10: Svalbard | Our flexible itinerary allows us to take advantage of favourable ice and weather conditions as we search for walruses, seals, reindeer, Arctic foxes and polar bears on our shore walks and Zodiac excursions.
At least one day exploring the pack ice north of Spitsbergen and, weather permitting we visit: Bellsund, Spitsbergen– is~ 50 miles long and more than 12-mile wide.
Prins Karls Forland – the island home of Forland National Park going ashore at Poolypnten, a wellknown walrus haul out.
Edgeøya Island – the third largest in the Svalbard Archipelago to go ashore at Diskobukta, where we will walk amongst thousands of Kittiwakes and Arctic foxes with fantastic opportunities to see walrus and polar bear on the ice floe.
Hornsund – The southernmost fjord on the rugged west coast of Spitsbergen Island where jagged mountain peaks tower above glacier-filled bays. Zodiac excursion watching out for bearded seals, the rare Beluga whale and polar bear with fairly common sightings as the polar bear’s favourite food, the ringed seal, and breeds in the fjord.
Day 11: Disembark Longyearbyen | Breakfast on board and airport transfer for your onward flight.
