MS Sea Explorer is an intimate comfortable expedition style ship with all suite accommodation in 7 categories for up to ~110 guests each with portholes or ocean view windows (some with balconies) and private en-suite facilities and has its own fleet of zodiacs for going ashore as well as excellent on board common facilities such as a library, lounge bar, gym, medical room and doctor, sun deck with jacuzzi and rear launch platform.
Day 1-2: Ushuaia | Prior to embarking 1 night in Ushuaia is included. Here, in this southernmost town in the world, enjoy the Argentinean leather markets, the famous Patagonian succulent lamb dishes Including also its award-winning museum and trips to nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park and its popular “Train at the End of the World”. Day 2, Embark the MS Expedition in the afternoon and sail in the evening for the Peninsula via the Beagle Channel and rounding Cape Horn.
Day 3-4: Drake Passage | An 800km (497mi) crossing named in honor of the 16th-century English sea captain Sir Francis Drake with daily lectures from the expedition team on what to see and do. On arrival at the Peninsula look out for the first sightings of icebergs, whale, dolphin and albatross on the way out via the Beagle Channel past penguin, cormorant and seal colonies.
Day 5-9: Antarctic Peninsula | The land of superlatives, Antarctica! Our flexible itinerary based on weather, ice, and opportunity will include the most scenic bays and channels with stops at penguin rookeries, seal wallows, bird colonies and whale feeding areas. The trip may include picturesque Neko Harbor, sheltered Paradise Harbor, the Humpback Whale favored Wilhelmina Bay, the striking Lemaire Channel, the wildlife-filled Penola Channel, or the majestic Neumayer Channel.
We may stop at an active scientific base such as Poland’s Arctowksi or Ukraine’s Vernadskiy as well as an historic base such as U.K.’s Port Lockroy or Wordie House. Adelie, Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins abound, and Weddell, Crab eater and Elephant Seals are often found hauled out to rest along with predatory Leopard Seals and the aggressive Antarctic Fur Seal. Minke and Humpback Whales are frequent visitors in the late season and Orca sightings are also common.
Day 10-11: Drake Passage | Review the highlights of your Antarctic experience with our staff as we journey back to Ushuaia.
Day 12: Ushuaia | Your cruise ends with an early morning arrival with transfers to the airport for return flights home.
