The MV Aqua (2008) and MV Aria (2011) are classic Amazon riverboats custom built for Aqua Expeditions to the highest standard of luxury with 12 resp 16 air conditioned cabins with either twin or king beds all with en suite bath rooms and river view “black out capability” privacy windows. On board facilities include an open upper observation deck, out and indoor lounges bars, a dining room with panoramic windows for all at one sitting and a boutique.
Itinerary highlights
Fishing at Charo and Carocurahuayte Lakes, exploring the Yacapana Islands, dolphin sightings, guided tours of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, visits to local villages, the “Mirrored Forest”, wildlife safaris by night and a visit to the Manatee Rescue Center.
Aqua 8 day High Water itinerary:
Day 1: Iquitos | Embarkation, set sail on the Amazon and welcome dinner.
Day 2: Charo Lake & Yacapana Is | Morning piranha fishing in lake Charo afternoon lecture and evening excursion to the Yacapana islands. Evening sail into the Maranon River.
Day 3: Pacaya-Samirai Reserve | Visit to the Ranger Station No 1 and guided hike, after lunch a lecture followed by a monkey & dolphin expedition.
Day 4: Nauto Cano & Iquitos | We reverse and sail to Iquitos the end of the 4 day cruise and on the way a village visit to meet the inhabitants and a chance to purchase local handicrafts. After lunch continuing passengers have a motorised excursion to Nauta and the “mirrored” forest.
Day 5: Yanallpa –Dorado Rivers & Pacaya-Samirai Reserve | Morning Yanallpa excursion through the gallery forest. Afternoon lecture and evening Dorado River exploration.
Day 6: Hatum Posa Lake/Pacaya River | Pre breakfast excursion to Hatum Posa Lake, jungle hike or village visit and a nighttime spot lighting trip to explore the Pacaya River from Ranger Station No 1.
Day 7: Pacaya River & Carocurahuayte Lake | Pacaya River exploration with breakfast on the way returning to our vessel as it turns towards Iquitos. After lunch the Carocurahuayte lake fishing trip. Dinner and presentation.
Day 8: Iquitos & City tour | Skiff excursion to floating village of Belen, Iquitos and after lunch a visit to the Manatee rescue centre on the way to Iquitos airport where your cruise ends.
Four & Five day cruises are sections of the eight day itinerary which differ between High & Low Water.
