La Amatista is one of the prettiest classic Amazon riverboats remodelled in 2012 using lots of beautiful hardwoods the ship has charm and atmosphere with 15 air conditioned cabins with either twin or queen beds all with en suite bath rooms and view windows. On board facilities include an open upper lounge/ observation deck with bar used for briefings, a dining room aft on the second deck that accommodates all passengers in one sitting and open skiffs for excursions lead by expert guides.
Itinerary highlights
Cruise 5 days on the Marañon and Ucayali rivers exploring the Amazon rainforest and the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve with expert guides on skiff excursions and on hikes searching for this areas unique wildlife and plants.
Day 1: Lima | Arrive at any time (arrival transfer included).
Day 2: Lima to Iquitos | Fly to Iquitos with an included city tour, visit a manatee rescue centre and transfer to the La Amatista moored on the Amazon River.
Days 3-7: Exploration of the Amazon, Marañon and Ucayali Rivers | Spend the first day sailing to the confluence of the Marañon and Ucayali rivers, considered to be the point where the Amazon River begins. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys, sloths, a variety of birds and the famous pink dolphin. Over the next five days, you’ll explore the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest. Your expert guides will lead jungle walks, give lectures and point out unique species of bird and marine life as you explore the smaller tributaries of the river.
Two days of excursions in the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve will provide remarkable wildlife viewing opportunities, and a chance to interact with the locals.Meet a local shaman and discover the mystical world of spiritual healing. Go piranha fishing and explore the mangroves in a dugout canoe. Take the opportunity to go swimming in the Sapisapi River to look for charapas and turtles. Visit the port town of Nauta and visit a local market to gain a deeper understanding of how people live in this remote part of the world.
Day 8: Iquitos to Lima | Disembark at Iquitos, transfer to the airport for the flight back to Lima with your transfer to your hotel and the afternoon free to explore the capital of Peru.
Day 9: Lima | Your tour ends with your hotel check out after breakfast.
