One Ocean’s expedition ships the Akademik Sergey Vavilov and the Akademik Ioffe are intimate comfortable expedition style ship with 5 categories of cabins for up to ~90+ guests each have ocean-facing windows or portholes and most private en-suite facilities and with its own fleet of zodiacs for going ashore as well as excellent on board common facilities such as lounge bar, presentation and multi media rooms gym, sauna, mud room, infirmary, gift shop and top deck observatory etc.

Itinerary highlights

Prior to embarking 1 night in a hotel in Ushuaia is included.

Day 1: Embark Ushuaia | Sail in the evening for the Peninsula via the Beagle Channel and rounding Cape Horn.

Days 2-3: Drake Passage | Cross Drake Passage with daily lectures from the expedition team about what to do and see on arrival expecting to see icebergs, seabirds and whales on the way.

Days 4-8: Antarctic Peninsula | Arriving at the Peninsula with its amazing scenery especially the colossal ‘tabular’ icebergs that break away from the continent’s ice shelf. Weather permitting set foot on the White Continent itself with the option to camp on shore overnight spending as much time as possible on Zodiac excursions to such features as Neko Harbour, Wilhelmina Bay Half Moon Island and even the southerly Petermann Island expecting to see Weddell, crabeater and elephant seals, skuas and other seabirds as well as very large colonies of the chin strap and Adelie penguins plus orca, humpback and minke whale.

Days 9-10: Drake Passage | Re crossing Drake Passage and rounding Cape Horn making for Ushuaia via the Beagle Channel with a farewell dinner on the last night.

Day 11: Ushuaia | Your cruise ends with an early morning arrival with transfers to the airport for return flights home.
