Itinerary highlights
●● Follow in the footsteps of the famous explorers, go kayaking and step onto the legendary Greenland ice sheet
●● Search for Arctic wildlife – of course the polar bear
●● Cruise fjords littered with glistening icebergs, visit picturesque towns and meet the locals
Day 1-2: Edmonton/ Kugluktuk | Arrive and overnight Edmonton next morning fly to Kugluktuk to board the Sea Adventurer.
Day 3: Bathurst Inlet | A hike ashore to view fall colours and spot grizzly and polar bear.
Day 4: Queen Maud Gulf | Visit the extensive wet lands in search of water fowl such as geese, swans and eiders etc.
Day 5: King William Island | The last resting place of the ill fated Franklin expedition to find the North West Passage with a cairn at Victory Point.
Day 6: Bellot Strait/ Fort Ross | Our most northerly point and a visit to the abandoned HBC trading post.
Day 7: Beechey & Devon Islands | Visit Beechey Is where Franklin’s expedition wintered and then to Devon Is to visit the deserted CMP station looking out for musk ox.
Day 8-9: At Sea / Ellesmere Island | Grise Fjord, Ellesmere Is. only settlement with a cultural performance.
Day: 10 Coburg Island | Zodiac to cliff base for wildlife viewing for gulliemots, kittiwakes etc also walrus seals and polar bears.
Day 11: Kane Basin | The site of a remarkable rescue by Captain Kane who led his ship-wrecked party on an 83 day march to Upernavik, Greenland with the loss of only one man.
Day 12: Qaanaq, Greenland | A settlement of ~650 inhabitants living in brightly painted houses to learn about Inuit culture and step onto the Greenland ice sheet.
Day 13: Cape York | Zodiac excursion search of narwhale, seals, polar bear.
Day 14: Upernavik | Kayak in protected bays among 100+ islands and visit the museum here.
Day 15: Uummannaq | Lookout for whales as we approach, walk the colourful streets and later a zodiac trip ashore to tiny Ukkusissat.
Day 16: Eqip Sermia Glacier | Cruise the glacier face looking for calving icebergs.
Day 17: Ilulissat | Cruising the fjord surrounded by young icebergs we visit the town in search of local handicrafts.
Day 18: Sisimiut | Here are famous stone carvers and a display of folkloric dancing.
Day 19: Kangerlussuaq/Copenhagen | Cruising the 100 mile fjord we disembark here and board a flight to Copenhagen where the cruise ends.
