The Galapagos Archipelago is full of an incredible range of rare and interesting bird life such as the blue footed boobies, cormorants that no longer fly, and the famous Darwin finches as well as the more commonly found frigatebirds, red footed boobies, penguins, storks, herons, flamingos etc.
Marine animals abound including all manner of sea lions, dolphins, rays, sea turtles and iguanas etc plus rare land animals such as the land iguana and of course the Galapagos giant tortoise.
North & Central Islands Itinerary:
Day 1-2: Quito to San Cristóbal Island | Fly to San Cristóbal on day 2. Meet your guide and transfer to the ship. Visit a tortoise breeding centre.
Day 3: Santa Fe Island | Land at Santa Fe for guided walks to observe the wildlife and plentiful marine iguanas. Excursion by Zodiac to Black Turtle Cove to see marine life.
Day 4: Santiago Island | Visit Playa Espumilla, one of the most idyllic beaches with thick mangroves along with flamingo and sea turtle nesting. Sail to Puerto Egas to see the salt crater as well as a dark-sand beach and tidal pools.
Day 5: Genovesa Island | Land at Genovesa, an old imploded volcano, to observe the massive colonies of frigatebirds and boobies. Visit Darwin Bay and El Barranco.
Day 6: Bartolomé Island & Sullivan Bay | Visit Bartolomé for a guided tour before hiking to a panoramic viewpoint. Continue to Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island to witness the giant lava formations in contrast of the white-coral-sand beach.
Day 7: Rábida Island & Cerro Dragón | Visit Rábida to see a lagoon and sea lion colony. Continue to Cerro Dragón to observe land iguanas and a saltwater lagoon frequented by flamingos.
Day 8: Santa Cruz Island | Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to see giant Galápagos tortoises and take an excursion to the Santa Cruz highlands. Free time for shopping.
Day 9-10: San Cristóbal to Quito | Visit El Junco lagoon before disembarking at San Cristóbal for the flight back to Quito.
