Dahabiyyas | A wonderful alternative to today’s large Nile cruise boats. The Dahabiyya “SS Hadeel” launched 2007 is beautifully fitted out in traditional colonial style combined with elegant modern furnishings with only 8 beautifully appointed air conditioned cabins each with its own en suite bath room.
Facilities on board include an air conditioned stylish lounge bar and dining room while the spacious and partially shaded top deck offering guests the opportunity to recline on comfortable deck chairs enjoying the Nile vistas, sunbathing, dining, or watching the breathtaking Nile sunsets and spectacular night stars.
Itinerary highlights
The SS Hadeel visits the best of Pharonic Egypt including the Valley of the Kings and Queens, the temples at Karnak, Luxor, Kom Ombo, Edfu and Philae and some off the beaten track destinations
Day 1: Luxor | Embark, lunch and then an afternoon excursion to the Temples of Karnak and Luxor.
Day 2: Luxor | Today a visit to the West Bank to see the Valley of the Kings, the tombs of the nobles, the temple of the female pharaoh Hatshepsut as well as Deir El Medina with the colourful tombs of the workers who built the temples
Day 3: Nile Sailing | Today, wind permitting, enjoy a full day under sail to observe the landscape roll by at a relaxing pace
Day 4: El Kab & Edfu | A visit to El Kab, one of the first Egyptian cities, with a large part of its imposing walls still standing continuing on to Edfu to see the Temple of Horus anchoring at a small island overnight with an Egyptian barbeque dinner
Day 5: Gebel El Silsila | Continuing towards Aswan through an area with cliffs on both sides a with visit the stone quarries of Gebel El Silsila where the stone for the temples was sourced mooring later at the river bank for a country walk.
Day 6: Kom Ombo | An excursion to Kom Ombo and its temple which has a double sanctuary dedicated to both Horus the elder and Sobek the crocodile and visit the market at Daraw if a market day
Day 7: Aswan & the Nubian Desert | Reaching Aswan we take camel ride into the Nubian desert visiting local villages, the tomb of St Simenon and the Aga Khan’s grave finishing the day with the sound and light show at the Temple of Philae
Day 8: Aswan | Disembark after breakfast
